I'm trying really hard to think of something I don't like about the Choux Shop.

Nuh, it's gone.
Dipped my toe in gently, initially, and went for lunch. Grilled sardines on toast never tasted so good! Well they were the proper sort of sardine, grilled flat. And they sat proudly on crostini ... not toast at all, silly me ... with a splodge of pesto and a splash of salad. Yum. And perfectly portioned for lunch. Coffee was tops.
After obsessing all week about the dishes I didn't order at lunch, splashed out and went back for dinner. Sadly, the restaurant was quiet ... a little too quiet. But not the ambience. The place felt warm and intimate. And the food? Rich, dark pigeon livers. Thinly sliced grilled duck breast and sweet duck leg wantons. Oyster terrine - challenging to look at, but sparkling to the tongue. The wine list was very entertaining, we chose a French Bordeaux (around $66), which was delightful. The cheese plate was perfect. And it all came in at around $200 (on par with Marque IV).
And who can argue with a restaurant respectful enough of its diners to provide individual hand towels in the bathroom?
Big fat French Provincial thumbs up from me. I anticipate I'll be stalking the place from now on.

Choux's pizza thingamajgy at lunch is what I love. Coupled with a sour lemon fizz its YUMCIOUS.

Hi Georgie. Been a while since I checked out your site. Just caught up on your Xmas and New Year. I'm a bit over the taste myself now. Especially those mushrooms. You must Try Amigos in North Hobart. Been taken over recently and even though I once had the worst meal I've ever had in Hobart there around 18 months ago, I went on Wednesday night and had one of the best meals ever. I have to warn you I'm a Mexican food addict and the margueritas don't hurt. But bloody lovely and the staff couldn't be more lovely

Bloody amazing wine list if you ask me. Hasn't been written by a sales rep and it represents great value for money compared with other Hobart 'institutions'. Food and service are both top notch with waiting staff who know their stuff and really feel like they enjoy their job, not just going throught the motions. Choux By Night is the package. Please don't change a thing!!!

The Choux shop?
They used to have great wooden chairs but replaced them with these big puffy suede ones :-( not as roomy.
Oh yeah , and where are the croissants?
The Chairs were plastic and imitation bamboo. The new ones are so much better. Who wants crossiants when they have all that other nice fare anyway?
Because croissants are cheap and simple, and no one serves decent ones anywhere. Nothing better than croissant and coffee, perfect lunch
Touche. I agree no one serves a decent crossaint and I love them too. The coffee has gone downhill since the old day maitre d` started working nights. She makes the best coffe in Hobart, if not Tasmania

Sorry I haven't been reading for a while but the initial passion and investigative zeal seems to have des(s)erted the resturant bitch ( and your regular contributors ). Bring on Malcom Gluck!!!
