Here’s a brief note on Catch, located in the old Rockefellers site in Morrison St at the waterfront.
Delicious. Stylish. Friendly.
Check out the website if you will (although it looks like the listed menus might be out-of-date). Better yet, just go. Apart from the screaming hyena at a nearby table (surely it wasn’t that funny, love), the ambience was as tasteful and warm as the food.
We sampled:
• Carpaccio of beef – Divine
• Cured ocean trout – Gorgeous
• Fish cake with king prawns – Not bad
• What I really loved … The Fish Pie – Wholesome, old-fashioned, gorgeous.
Go check it out. I’ll definitely be back!

Catch - Meh! Same old, same old.
Plus the staff couldn't deal with the fact that my partner and I just wanted desert and drinks. Meh.
I may venture in, HRB, I haven't had a feed there since the Last Days of Rockerfeller.
It was a noisy place back then. Last time...we had a table of four women (late 20s to early 30s but why does that matter i here myself say as i type) who roared and guffawed and screeched.
Even their ``talk'' was a shout. What is it with these people?
Not that you want silence but a bit of consideration is the thing.
Sir Grumpy
Had drinks and a dessert at Catch a few months ago - no problems at all.
I've been meaning to go back for a meal, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Then you should buy me dinner stephen because my pain paved your way!
But you don't like it forde.
So suffer.
Is this coment section limited to car metaphors? I'm in! Bewdy!
Leyland P47-Eleven.
Gobbler, you're Nissan in the wind.
I meant dinner somewhere nice and interesting holden...
suffer in your mediocrity.
Hey, I'm the Alfa male here.
Valiant attempt Stephen, I suspect you are a Gemini & perhaps you were also a Prefect at School, better yet, the Comodore at the Kingswood Sailing Club? Me I'm of to play Golf in my Swift Beetle.
I'll just have a couple of Rolls with Royce.
Chrysler almighty this is just all Detroit-is but you never Renault maybe some day a Michelin star migh be awarded to an Audi- all-night cafe in Hobart, or is that just a Bridgestone too far?
Zum, Zum, Zum, I Mazda been crazy.
Datsun enough of these word games.
The slightly amusing car jokes are by far the best thing i have ever read on this site.
Jeez, I'm just gonna Citroen down and Focus on these metaphors for a bit. You guys and girls just seem to Excel at this game.
Its on the market as of Saturday
I was down in Hobart recently and decided to go to Catch after reading your blog and was very impressed. When I left Hobart in 2003 there weren't nearly as many decent restaurants as there are now. I ordered the 500g rib eye and it was just perfect. My fellow diners were equally pleased with their meals. The only let down was my white chocolate mousse which was all a bit "meh". My boyfriend's dark chocolate Lindt cake with raspberry sauce was absolutely divine!
Could it be possible that the lady who runs this site has come to her senses and given up??
Hey Georgie, I miss you.
What's doing?
Hey take a trip to Moonah for authentic clean Lebanese Food at the "King of Lebanon" opposite the Post office. I don't need a trip to Brunswick street in VIC now. I am still getting many happy garlic returns. The liver is great and when you go don't just expect just a falafel. Real nice folks as well. By the way a new cafe where Jean Pascal used to be in Gouldburn Street West Hobart is taking shape. Cheers Paul
I thought the service at Catch was terrible.
On entering the Maitre D couldn't even be stuffed looking at us when she spoke.
For the whole night we felt unwelcome and uncomfortable.
But what can I say this is Hobart after all and it seems that anywhere a bit of friendly service is the hardest dish to serve.
I read your blog from time to time. What happened to you? did you run out of restaurants. keep the blogospere alive!
Maybe Georgie your final remark "I will be back" was prophetic.
But wrong.
I don't think you will be back.
Maybe you could just say goodbye to the loyal followers
Went to Catch a while ago. Funnily enough we weren't 'caught'. In fact, I will never EVER go back again. Service was slow and a bit tedious, every seafood dish our party ordered was of poor quality. Every person experienced seafood that was cooked til dry - was the trainee on duty? Friend'ss $29ish salmonportion was about 0.75cm thick (at the thickest part), couldn't have been more than 10cm long....bad bad bad.
Then again, maybe we rocked up on a bad night....
Anon.
